I like his versions of some of Hendrix's songs. My favourite SRV original is Texas Flood.

Texas Flood isint a Stevie Ray original. Stevie actually did alot of obscure covers and made them his own.

3 Stevie songs usually mistaken SRV originals are:

1. texas flood
2. cold shot
3. mary had a little lamb

I agree though...anything he did that was either hendrix or albert king was superb. his version of "Little Wing" is probably one of his best recordings ever. the tone was godlike.

i'd have to say my fave stevie original (his own) is probably "Life Without You" or "Wall Of Deniel" (well him and Doyle Bramhall wrote it together but thats close enough!)

Not a big fan of SRV, but - although I really hate to admit this - I prefer his cover of "Little Wing" over the original. I love those extra little fills he throws in there, and being a 'Tube Screamer into Fender' guy myself, I really dig his tone.

I am an avid SRV hater. And I am not keen on his tone.

Except his version of Voodoo Chile. That guitar tone (especially the wah intro) is amazing.

oh man, I can't say which is the best, but I can tell the ones I like more, in no particular order...

- riviera paradise
- texas flood
- love struck baby (chuck berry should be warned hearing this!)
- pride & joy
- the sky is crying
- may I have a little talk with you
- life by the drop
- cold shot
- all the hendrix stuff (voodoo, little wing, third stone from the sun)
- etc!

though he wasn't a profilic writer, he surely was an incredibile performer... I must admit though I was heart broken to discover that "life by the drop" wasn't written bt the man!!!

I'm not much of a blues fan but SRV is one of the few blues artists that I really enjoy. I think his version of Little Wing is phenomenal!

Well there's a toughie -- all of the above are my favs -- hhhhmmmm --

I'm thinking that "Love Struck Baby" at least right now since I'm working on learning that one and I do really like the solos in it.

Altho a close second on any of my lists would be "Tell Me Why" -- It's kind of a forgotten one -- I've never found a tab for it but would love to get that one down someday.

Of his originals I'd have to say I like "Couldn't Stand the Weather" or "Life Without You" best. Though his instrumentals like "Scuttle Buttin'" or "Rude Mood" rock too.

Of his covers, obviously "Little Wing" is great, along with "Texas Flood" or "Boot Hill". Love that last one - he's telling his woman to give him his gun so he can give her the gun! Messed up.

Yeah, 'Life Without You' is definately my favorite. I love the way the solo comes in after he finshes the verse and the little talk he does in the live versions, its just so powerful! I also like 'Dirty Pool' that's a real original sounding song to me.

SRV Rocks!

I have 'Traffic Jam' SRV with Carlos Santana.

I got it from Kazaa but I can't find any info on the recording.

Where? When? Why? What album?

Favorite SRV song...

...'Life by the Drop' :)

Like Willie Nelson, SRV is one of those guilty pleasures I indulge in every once in a while

"Tell Me" is my fave -- it's an old Howlin' Wolf tune (one of my faves of Wolf's too) and SRV does a wonderful job with it ... it's a lesser known but i think it's one of his best :)

(if anyone ever finds a tab for this one, please let me know ... been looking for years lol)

I'm a huge fan of SRV; I love his tone and his playing. He managed to make overplaying work within the context of that band: a tough job.

Some of my faves:
- Crossfire. That groove still kills.
- Tin Pan Alley
- Honey Bee
- Tightrope
- Change It
- The whole of the Albert King & Stevie Ray Vaughan In Session CD. That's some killer blues playing.

That sweet fenderyness almost makes me cry.

A few different (great) tones, melodic lead lines, various singing tones. Word to big bird.
