I know the foo fighters sound, its all humbuckers through mesa boogies, but i wanted to replicate the distortion, on songs like breakout, the one, all my life, hey johnny park etc..
Which pedal would be best advised to use?
Proco Rat
Boss DS-1
or any other suggestions, btw the pedal will be going through a Marshall MG50 DFX

Dave uses a Rat.... when my band played a cover of Everlong i used a super cranked Marshall JTM30 combo with a Epi SG and it worked perfectly...

All My Life is very much based on the sound of the acrylic guitar

the Rat is great for Foo Fighters songs, obviously because Dave used it. on higher settings it's good for early songs like "Monkey Wrench" and "Hey Johnny Park", but turn it down a little and it can sound more like a cranked tube amp, therefore more like songs like "Breakout" and "M.I.A." when he was uses Vox AC-30s. then crank it again for the new stuff.

I'd say a rat... or a rectifier ;)
Pro-Co Rat through an AC-30; that was his rig for Nothing Left to Lose.

i know he uses a vox ac30, but i always imagined he put his rat through a mesa, seein as thats what he has on stage and uses the vox ac30 for clean sounds, but thanks 4 the advice, i will now get a rat. I like the sound becuae of the foo fighters, so to do jimmy eat world, and i like their sound too.

last word i hear was that he was just using ac-30's. no distortion pedals, no rectifiers. just the ac-30's through mesa 4x12 cabs.

He used Rats heavily on stuff from the self-titled album, but later, he began using amp distortion more and more. Unless you can afford a Dual Rectifier, a Rat will do, but don't expect it to sound exactly like his tone.

for There Is Nothin Left to Lose, most of the time he would do one track straight through the AC-30 and pan it to one side then record a another with the Rat and pan it to the other side. so the finished product that you hear is a combo of the two tones, one cranked tube amp and one super distorted Rat.

i just saw them lastnight in toronto and they played an awsome set....they opened with "all my life" and i was jumping tryign to get a look at his pedal board......i couldnt quite see though since they had those little angled cabnits at the front of the stage(i cant rememeber what there called) blocking the view......all i could make out was his chromatic tuner.sorry

"little angled cabinets" = monitors
I heard that all he uses now is his ampswitcher.I may be wrong.
