i was just wondering how many ppl agree with my opinion about robert trujillo as a replacement for jason. i really think that they messed up on this one. im a really big tallica fan and i was really disappointed with their choice. i was even more outraged when he was allowed to be present at the MTV icon show. jason should have been there. well i could go on more about how much this sucks but i just have one more thing to say............
WHERE THE HELL IS MIKE INEZ!!!!!!
oooh good call...he would fit in nicely...i've always loved him

i agree with you saying jason should have been at the mtv icons show. but robert seems pretty badass on the bass, we'll have to wait for the album after st anger to really see what he brings to the band.

Rob didn't even play on St. Anger though, Bob Rock did it all.

trujillo is an okay bassist. he just doesnt fit in the band didnt have the same oomph as cliff or jason. he just doesnt have a persona that complements the band. he also doesnt quite fill in jasons shoes. everyone thats seen a metallica concert knows that jason adds a lot of stage presence.

I saw the new video for ST. Anger today... my first time hearing the song too. I think it sucks... I can't make it any easier than that. I like Metallica to a certain extent... I even liked Load, but this new stuff sucks. I mean, I don't say music sucks very often if ever... but I think this warrants it.

i sorta agree but i thought the video was totally badass but the song wasn't up to normal metallica standards its good but not as good

Well, maybe I was a little harsh... but I mean, I'm just totally disappointed.

i thought that both the video and the song werent up to their usual standards. it didnt sound like them. it might grow on me after a while but if the rest of the album sounds like this i dont think im going to be happy. i was already disappointed at that one song they played at the end of the mtv icon. i think it was called frantic. that didnt sound like them either. i also thought it was weird that the song st. anger didnt have a guitar solo in it.

i agree, im a huge metallica fan and after watching icon i have abit of resentment to james for what he did to jason all those years. jason is one hell of a bass player, and i felt it was unfair of the guys to take their greiving for cliff burton out on jason. but then again credit must be given to jason for stepping in and playing some fantastic stuff with metallica.
i also thought load and reload sucked, some of the songs were good (fuel, unforgiven 2, etc etc) but most of it was crap.
robert is a kick-ass bass player, although i dont believe that he is as good as jason or cliff. jason was right to get out when he did, i dont think st anger is going to be all that great after hearing frantic and seeing the new video, but mabye they will prove us all wrong.
personaly i think bob rock sohulda been hired as the new bass player, unfortunetly i think this could be the beginning of the end for metallica, which is a real shame cause i am a MASSIVE fan
hopefully they can prove us all wrong, i certainly have faith in them that the rest of the new album will be some kick ass metal

I think a lot of you are underestimating Robert. I got to see him live last year, at the UK Ozzfest, with Ozzy and he was great. Him and Wylde made that show worth watching, because, Ozzy himself? Meh.
And the new song/video seems pretty cool. It's nice that they're at least trying to sound different to everyone else around, and don't those drums just sound ****ed up? A really really weak snare sound, and toms, but this absolutely massive bass drum sound. So odd. I'm not gonna pass judgement on them till I've heard the new album tho.
ok for those ppl who feel bad for jason... fukc the little girl. if he was never man enough to stick up for himself and say chill out, or find a new scape goat, well then hes just a wuss. He did bring a lot to the table, but that can be replaced. he was never one of the ppl who made me want to stop playing guyitar and play bass, if you want that impact they should have gone for les claypool (actually they almost picked him instead of jason). either way, you people have no idea what robert can bring to metallica so just wait and see. bitching about this is almost as bad as bitching about metallica cuttin their hair

im not dissing robert, i think he is an amazing bass player but just for my personal taste found jason more intresting. as for the scape goat comment, i have no doubt that jason did stand up for himself or he wouldnt of been there that long.
i saw the video again today, its in something like 4/4 time and changes to 7/4 (i think), kool video right enuff and the huge bass drum comes form lots of double bass. i didnt liek the snare sound, abit to dull for me, and the drums drown out the guitar abit at times. its a kool enuff song, but abit repetative. although i like the idea of an album with no solo's, who woulda expected it like??????

I don't think it matters who plays bass in metallica anymore. Was there any good bass playing after Master of Puppets? Thought not. So what does it matter? They could get anyone to play bass, as long as they just play what they're told. Bass was never a main thing for Metallica other than a few songs Cliff did.

I agree with Badjohnny was there any good bass playing after puppets? Another question would be did you hear any bass in justice?;) Rob is badass in my opinion and Jason is one of my hero's (Cliff is my GOD) But after Cliff nobody will fill his shoes. On another note Les Claypool wouldn't have fit the styl of music for Metallica he too funky of a player for there sound.
Hey you guys :
A/ Have any of you actually seen Robert on stage with the mighty SUICIDAL TENDENCIES ??? He ROCKS HARD !!!
B/ Noone gives a **** about Metallica these days anyway - they're probably still great on stage but the records ? Duh !
trujillo is hillarious on stage.....in my immature view...DO THE CRAPWALK EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!.....but burton was the best bassist metallica had

I dont think people should complain about rob being at the mtv icon thing, cos if you see rob there he seems very humble and modest about being in metallica. And do you really think if jason said he wanted to go that people would say no to him, of course they would have let him go.
And i read an interview james or kirk where they said that they picked rob because he played all of there songs with ease, when compared to other people who auditioned such as twiggy.

I admire Twiggy though, he did better, he went to join A Perfect Circle, and he kicks ass there because he is a melodic player, nothing fancy, but its nice.
btw Newstead kicks ass with Ozzy, I saw them live this summer

I totally Agree with you brother:cool:
I really think it's going to take the next album to be able to see how Trujillo fits in. I know from listening to some of the Suicidal Tendencies stuff that he's a great bassist, it's just a matter of how well he fits his playing into Metallica.

Rob's playing with Ozzy and Suicidal Tendancies was/is great, as for him with Metallica, he looks no more out of place than Kirk does and I'm waiting for the next Metallica album before judging his playing.
Someone told me Metallica apologised for St Anger (the album) anyone else hear anything similar?

i remember when jason first signed on with metallica,, everyone was all" he sucks, he'll never replace cliff", you know what? you are ALL right.....he didn't replace cliff, he brought on his own style to compliment the band................ and as i remember, and justice for all was godlike when it came out, and put everyones worries behind them.
metallica has been around about 23 years since kill em all was released and they have changed and progressed, resulting in a lot of what you hear now, as a matter of fact, dave mustaine co wrote a lot of what was on "kill em all" and kirk definitely filled the shoes there....................it's just progression, and jason wasn't all that on bass.

ya I agree with the above post, jason wasn't THAT good. Like he seemed like a solid player and all but he wasn't really anything special IMO.

I agreed with statements like that until I watched "A Year in a half in the life of Metallica"...It shows Jason recording a lot of his basslines in the studio for the Black Album, and I was very impressed with some of the basslines he was doing...most of which were left off of the Black Album...
But he's a very similar player to Geezer Butler, using that famous E minor blues box...he just doesn't go off and go nuts like Geezer liked to.

Rob is actually an incredible bassist. Honestly Metallica will limit what he does. Don't believe me? Pick up a Sucidal Tendencies CD. I love jason but metallica wasn't the band for him. Voivod fits much better and he is much happier there.
As far as metallica goes I hate bob rock. St. Anger was purely bob rock. To show you how much he sucks, bob decided to tune his bass down even to C# because he couldn't figure out a 5 string.
I liked metallica pre "Metallica" I liked metallica pre "S&M" I do't regard them as the same bands though. anything after sucks

and yes... holy ****... this is and old mother ****in thread
man oh man oh man, old ****ing tread :p
BUT, since we're on the topic...
I saw Metallica last year, and of all the live-videos I've seen with Jason (I never got to see him live in Metallica :( ) he was always playing bass-solos and doing crazy **** with wah's and delays (from Binge and Purge and Cunning Stunts) and he did all the backup-vocals (Kirk did some too, but Jason was THE backup-vocals), and when I saw Metallica, I was really thrilled 'cause I was going too find out what Rob was for kinda player.
So, their about to play For Whom The Bell Tolls, a place where Jason usually goes nuts and plays alot of solos and stuff and.... Crap. Seriously, Rob was standing there, looking like a retarded monkey just figuring out that what he just ate was his own poo, playing some fourth-grade bass"licks" and the whole crowd goes nuts.
And also, from what I heard, Rob didn't actually "bring" anything to the band, he went in, played the other bassparts and looked like a monkey doing it (talking about live, not studio :p )
Rob may be a badass slapper and stuff like that, but Metallica? No ****ING way.
As far as metallica goes I hate bob rock. St. Anger was purely bob rock. To show you how much he sucks, bob decided to tune his bass down even to C# because he couldn't figure out a 5 string.
Bob Rock used a fourstringer just because that bass (A Spector) was owned by a close friend of his that died, and when they were about to record the album, he called up his friends wife and asked if he could use the bass on the new album. Don't ask me why, but I think that a world-known producer who plays guitar can play a five-stringer, it's bull**** saying he can't figure it out.
