i was listening to rush's self-titled album the other day, and it occured to me that this guy gets nowhere near the respect he deserves. everyone raves about neil and geddy's prowress on their respective insturments (and rightly so) but damn, listen to the s/t, which i think is the one album where he isn't overshadowed (partly because neil isn't present.) take the riff to "working man." how many second-rate rock groups did that riff give birth to. a lot that weren't fit to be rush's roadies i'll bet.

I saw Rush live not too long ago, it seems that Neil gets most of the glory but Alex Lifeson still blew me away. I also liked his immense wall of Hughes & Kettner :)

I really wanted to see that tour. Lifeson is one of my alltime favs. My favorite period is A Farewell to Kings through Moving Pictures. So many good parts. Dare I say without Lifeson knows when to step up, AND when to step down, Rush wouldn't be even half as good.

Yeah, I agree, Alex Lifeson is a 3 peice player true, he knows when to rip and when to fill the space with chords and arpeggios.

If anyone is interested, this is a cool site on Alex's kit over the years;

Dude!! I was listening to Permanent Waves today in the car on the way to work. Having formerly been a bassist all I ever listened to in Rush was the bass and drums, but this time I REALLY concentrated on the guitar. Alex is one amazing player!! The song Spirit of the Radio, it just kills me every time I hear it.
