what would happen if you used a guitar amp with a bass, and a bass speaker cab? how would it sound? like ****? or anything useable?

A couple days late on this but, If the guitar head is a tube head you should be able to get away with it although it wil break up alot sooner than a bass head and you'll have to replace the tubes more often.

Basically bass notes take more power to produce than guitar notes do, so in effect bass will start to overdrive faster(the point when the amp no longer has enough power to correctly reproduce the notes) and start to clip causing the sound to distort.

If you're willing to replace the tubes more often and not be able to turn it up and stay clean then you'd probably be ok but I'd suggest just getting a bass amp. If you want 1 amp for both guitar and bass get a bass amp as they work fine for guitar.
