ok I am in love with the trail of the dead. I just think their arrangements are absolutley amazing, I was wondering can anyone make some suggestions to other good bands that sound similar to dead?

most of the riffs for "mistakes and regrets" and "perfect teenhood" off the album madonna are just sonic youth riffs from Daydream Nation listen to Teenage Riot for what i mean, most trail of the dead tunings are sonic youthed as well

gururyan...the vid you saw was for "Another Morning Stoner", off the album "source tags & codes". that's their most recent full-length release (?) i think...i know they released an EP recently as well as Madonna, which was their first full-length...as james_circle pointed out they are pretty similiar to sonic youth, i never really realized it until i listened to source tags & daydream nation back to back...:P hah
but yeah, source tags & codes is a decent album...it might take a little while to grow on you, i've had it for over a year & i enjoy it very much.
MOokie
Anything off their new album Source Tags, and Codes, would be great. I think that is definantly a best suited intro to them, as personally I think some of their earlier stuff is a bit less listene friendly but still great.

i have had source tags and codes since it came out.. and i just cannot get into it any further than two or three songs... everyone compares them to sonic youth.. but i dont agree so much.. maybe i just havent listened to trail of dead enough to take notice?

Trail of dead rocks! I dont think they are Sonic youth ripoffs.. the earlier albums are much more harsh then sonic... ST&C is a very good album!

Relative ways of STC is absolutely one of the best written songs Ive heard.
Anybody know about their gear at all?

u mean homage? yeah i like that one; love the whole noisy/quiet thing. my fav is either how near how far or morning stoner though. As for who they sound like, its basically sonic youth: go buy goo, daydream nation and dirty and you'll seriously get into 'yoof' aswell

i saw them on conan and i remember the singer was playing a fender toronado.
if you like trail of dead, you'll probably dig QOTSA, they toured together back in the fall.

He also use Les Pauls, Explorers (80's modell with floyd rose and dimarzio pickup) and some weird Italian guitar thing....

"how near, how far"
And even though the bare a resemblence to Sonic Youth, they sound more like the Wipers.
And I think they write better songs then sonic youth have in years.

Try the first My Bloody Valentine album. Total guitar overkill

Very different style of Guitar overkill though....personally, I suggest loveless (And I am assuming you mean "Isn't anything" and not "This is your bloody valentine".)

I meant Isn't Anything. Loveless is much more ambient - there's lots of noisy guitars, but it comes off as dream pop.

When I think Dream Pop I think RIDE, but I can see your point.

Shoegazing for me is MBV (Loveless) and Slowdive.
Ride is dream pop. Cocteau Twins as well.

For me Ride will always be the ultimate shoegazers because their pop element was low compared to the Cocteaus.
MBV were the original shoegazers, of course, but Loveless is very dream pop - especially in the vocals and the ambient guitars

Yeah, for some reason they were pretty popular back in the early 90s. I think they were one of the better shoegazer acts - but they couldn't compete with Britpop bands on the terms of hooks and melody. And their guitar sound was damn almighty and sometimes impenetrable, so it makes me wonder how they made it big even for a while.
Wow im surprised how near how far seems to be a lot of peoples favorite, that song is just amazing, I find the little center break down very full of emotion. As far as My Bloody, I do listen to them, and I have and enjoy the album loveless :). I bought it about five months ago under someone heres recomendation.

Trail of Dead are cool; however, they come across as the biggest pretentious rock stars on the planet when they play live. Personally, I like Madonna more than Source Tags and Codes, the new EP is a bit out there though. Glad to see they're not content to repeat themselves.
As for My Bloody Valentine-- I've only heard Loveless and honestly couldn't get into it at all. I guess it was the lack of a rhythm section (sounded like a drum machine to me). Any suggestions?

BTW: Mogwai love Norway, they have friends in the city "Bergen" and therefore they are playing gigs like 2-3 times each year :D but this will be the first time I'll see them...
