View Full Version : Thanks guitargeek central control
For getting rid of that owlex freak.
This site is one of the few forums that doesn't have a lot of nonsensical folks posting absolute rubbish. I applaud your timely efforts to extinguish the pests.
salute!

thank god that person is gone.
on one hand i can see his sense of irony when he posts, but in the end... he's just really obnoxious and doesn't contribute anything.
thanks guitar geek!

Whether it was ironic, funny or whatever, I had abolsutely no interest in reading threads that were polluted with that person's nonsense. Anybody can make an ass of themselves behind the cloak of internet anonymity.

well.. he did actually have some normal posts before he went off on us, i remember looking. and if it wasnt done in such a malicious manner, some satire might be helpful for us. the 'super duper distorion monster' was kinda funny/clever, he captured the essencse of some of the newbie posts we get around her, till he started attacking members and stuff.
oh welll, he's an ass, glad to be rid of him

well, let me put it this way... i think it was sorta funny/ironic the first time... but that person's posts were a waste of my time each subsequent time. the shtick got really old, really fast.

I'm glad he is gone...but I bet he will surface again someday, somewhere, somehow.
If it means anything, I would be fine with a $10 annual membership fee to join GuitarGeek. Maybe you could do a poll about that and you may be surprised to how many would pay in order to keep the riff-raff out.....not too mention get you money for larger servers or what-not.
maybe add some on to the price of the future t-shirt and call that the fee.. since it looks like we'll have a store soon, maybe have the two (shirt and fee) as a package, and/or seperatley. this way, we'd get a new shirt design every year, or just have it as a lifetime membership with the purchase of a shirt/fee. i'd pay probably, but i like it being free

I would do that, for sure.
That guy was a toolbox...
i suggest that we wait for the forums to get bigger before charging to join them. i think we have about 20 regular posting members...

At this time we see no need to charge for membership. If/when we do, we will certainly consider premiums (t-shirt, etc.) for joining. For the time being, we have a number of controls at our disposal to try and limit troll activity, up to and including disabling new membership signups.
Nothing beats the trolls except ignoring their posts. Our recommendation if you come across a troll is to report them to an administrator or moderator (me or guitargeek, respectively). We will review the member's activity and either: 1) warn them, 2) ban them outright or 3) let them continue posting (if we determine the activity not to be trolling).
After you have reported someone, view the offending member's profile and click the link in the lower-right-hand corner to add that user to your ignore list. That way you're not bothered by the person's remarks or incensed to fire back at them.
Thanks to all of you who contribute to this forum in a constructive manner. Your feedback is helping us improve the site and your comments are helping guitarists all over the world.
