the roots are talented, have you heard their new album, you cant tell me its not good
yeah seriously. the roots guitarist is very good. he played SOME ONE ELSES SONG on an instrument he uses for his own stuff. should he have switched to a fender squire to play it? no.
with that mentality, if you ever get a nice guitar you can NEVER play any simple song. EVER.

Right, but it's very layered! There's some nice harmonies on there. I don't think they ever did that one live. (I think they were done with that at that point.) Too much studio wizardry involved. Not as much as "Tomorrow Never Knows" though, which was only ONE chord by the way! ("C", I think.)
Bo Diddley! One chord for the whole song, and the guitar was tuned to that chord! The rhythm is a mother, though. I've never heard anyone else do it quite right.

I was just talking guitar-wise. Paperback Writer is a fairly stripped-down song, Just drums, guitar, bass, and their voices. There is that little lead line before the verses, though. Tomorrow Never Knows, on the other hand..that song could have come out yesterday and still have been mindblowing.
Most songs of linkin' park are pretty easy. Just drop D tuning, lay you're finger flat and strum. A 6 year old could do that. To be completely honest, I just don't understand why there is such a big hype around them. I know a lot of people disagree with me, but I hope there are some guitarists out there who think the same.

The cool thing about modern popular music (punk rock, linkin' park) is that they're easy to play, and when people who do not play guitar themselves hear you play it they'll think you're some kind of rock good. It's kinda cool actually. But offcourse when you go to you're guitar teacher or someone who can play, you'll be back on the grond with both feet haha.

In my oppinion thats one of the totally uncool things about modern music as it just leads to repetetive, uncreative music that is just plain boring.

I don't know...Pearl Jam's cover of "Last Kiss" was my first song. It's very simple (only four chords). "Molly's Lips" is easy too, but switching from G to C so quickly over such a long period of time might be difficult for someone who hasn't gotten used to grabbing chords on a whim.

The totally uncool thing about modern music is that anybody thinks that has any relation to punk rock. Of course, if Avril Lavigne can say she's punk rock and not be stoned to death by an angry mob, than I should probably just throw my hands in the air and give up.
I'm going to start a Romantics cover band, put some distortion on the lyrics and call it punk rock. Better yet, I'm going to hang myself with a False Prophets t-shirt.

I think they're just talking about the cord progression, calm down, breath. In, out, in, out. In Dylans version it's just strumming of the chords G D C.
In Gn'R's version Slash switches between G D C and G D Am and then does all these funky things. I like both versions myself. They do this concert version, way back when Appetite came out and it's freaking great. Gn'R Live at the Ritz. (They do it in other concerts but that version is my favorite.)
As far as the easiest song, whoever put mother by pink floyd is mistaken, there are far easier songs. Songs with only two chords and no changes or solos or anything.
I'd give a second vote for some thing in the way by Nirvana. Hmmm, though the way I heard it was Drop D tuning, F# and then open. One acctual chord. That's what I always show people who like to fiddle with my guitars. "Wow I can play a song!"
Any Nothing else matters, to intricate compared to Something in the way. Well I'm done now.

There is some punk tunes that have about as many chords as a solo would notes.
I would think that the easiest song around would be one chord, but then again could you find it easy to have to stay on one chord for a whole song? :P

Those five segments, mixed, matched, repeated, etc., make up the entire four minute or so song. Oh, plus there's a cool little trickling noise when Manson starts whispering in the beginning. I replicate that by putting my finger on my low D string at the neck pickup (which is off) and slide it down towards the bridge while tapping the string against bridge pickup.
Incredibly easy but so much fun! :D

easiest song for me was "on top of old smokey"... why? because playing single note runs is a billion times easier than nicely changing between open chords, IMO. besides, the notes are wonderfully easy. and it's a fun song to randomly play for people when they're expecting something else.
and the ramones look a lot less "easy" if you play them all downstrums (like johnny did) and do so for a 1 hour set. maybe it's just me, but that gets painful.
another fairly easy one is "a horse with no name".... Em and... i think it's something like F#m with an extra decoration... don't know exactly what right now. it's 200200 though.

Although you don't like KoRn, I hate to agree with you. MTV couldn't pick a decent bands list for any category if they had to appoint more than one person to make the list.
It's almost as if they're too busy doing nothing and calling it music television to stop and realize what bands have influenced what.

about the whole mtv thing... i think it was of all time. maybe...
it was on mtvI as shameless promotion for mtvII. i got II but my parents blocked it via parental controls.
.......damn you censors....
i think some of the easier songs ever are those yjm tunes... it's all about techniques... if you spend (waste?) some time on it you'll play em exactly like yjm does.
i think that for lots of people it's harder to play a 3 chords ramones or nirvana song givin it the right feel.
ok, now you can kick me if you want, but imo, that's it...

never have i seen such misuse of an instrument.
not to mention the fact that the guitarist in the roots is awesome

There are a lot of easy songs.
Easy songs doesn't mean that they're bad songs. Good songs doesn't have to be hard to play.

1) Go up the melodic minor scale
2) Go down the melodic minor scale
3) Now do it really, *really* fast!"
Also (overheard during the recording of Hear-N'-Aid, 1985)
