Today I saw a James Burton Tele over at Chambers and wow they look awsome. They look amazing. Also the sound fo the thing realy blew me away it really did not seem like the sound of a tele more like a strat and wow it was awsome sounding. I only wish I could have played it there was a kid that wanted it and he was playing it and had someone else play it and I think the dude was going to buy it. But an awsome tele.

I treid the mexican version (which is more of a conventional tele). it has that lovely U shaped neck from the seventies fender... awsome!
so... in a crazy fit of craziness, I picked up a '96 (I think based on the serial number MSN6xxxxx) cream-colored mexican burton tele from ebay. The gtr is on its way and the deal is done. I have been wanting a tele for a long time and this seems to fit my needs and desires - plus, it cost me less than a new mim standard tele, yet has both a pickup-upgrade and a desirable color that I couldn't achieve otherwise.
Now for my question: is there anything I should know about this gtr before it arrives? Did I buy a well-known headache that makes me worthy of ridicule? As I said, it was a crazy fit of craziness, so I'm hoping I don't regret this.

Apologies to all for reviving a thread that's been dormant for almost 2.5 years but I've a question about the James Burton standard tele.
Some of the HC reviews mention that it has a reverse taper neck but according to Fender it is a '60s "U" shape. I'm not sure I follow what a reverse taper neck is--the description on HC makes no sense to me
Can anyone shed some light on this? Teleman perhaps?
Thanks!!! :)

reverse taper? I have no idea what that is. It felt like a normal, vintage thick neck to me. Nothing odd or radically different.
