I just wanted to start a thread and see what performances you guys who caught all or parts of the Grammys dug. For my money, Bonnie Rait killed...she's one of those people I always forget how much I like until I hear her.
Oh yeah and in a more perfect world, Joss Stone would be 15 times as poplular as Ashlee/Jessica/Britney/insertnamehere.

In a perfect world usher wouldn't be up for "album of the year"
was there ever a point in time when the grammys didn't suck?

no...
i missed it, i watched the pro bowl instead.
but i did see some of jennifer lopez with mark antony or whoever he is....it was so bad i had to switch it really quick.
all i saw was john mayer play that boring song i can't stand and present (w/ lisa marie) what i'm guessing was song of the year (?) to U2 for the sheit that is vertigo ... needless to say i hated all that i saw ...
mayer may be good on guitar and U2 may be going into the RRHoF - but that was 7 minutes of pop-bullsh*t i could have done w/o ...
* i was on a break @ work *
so, according to these guys, britney spears makes better dance than basement jaxx and the chemical bros?

As always, it was a very frustrating thing to watch.
Random thoughts...
The opening extravaganza with gwen, black eyed peas, los lonley boys, maroon 5 & franz ferdinand was a total clusterfu¢k.
Why do they cram so many people on stage at the same time to sing and play medleys every year? It rarely works.
That whole lynrd skynrd thing was a mess. Complete embarassing mess. What was the point of having skynrd there anyway? The academy is giving them credit nearly 3 decades AFTER they had any relevance?
And for christ's sake...would someone please tell jennifer lopez that she CAN'T sing? She has no power in her voice & she doesn't stay on key. Who buys her records?
Green day kicked ass. Loved them. Happy that wilco won a grammy too.
I went to bed when the gospel thing started so i missed everything after that.

Britney doesn't make anything. The real winners are the people who wrote and produced the song.

that's obvious...
i was referring to britney to indicate the music is labeled with her name.

Why can't the grammy people gather the balls to honour someone like Ray Charles when he was still alive?

good point... but you know, nowadays dying is like releasing the greatest album in your career...
The Grammy's people don't know sh*t. If they knew anything about cutting edge music, past and present bands like Joy Division, My Bloody Valentine, the Pixies, and Ulrich Schnauss would have won awards.
My advice: don't watch the Grammy's--its bullsh*t.

Think how many posthumous grammys are going to be given out once the 60's rock generation starts dying.
McCartney, Clapton, Rolling Stones....

The Grammy organisers just don't understand dance music so any particularly pure pop music gets called dance and lumped in, then it has a natural advantage because it was far more successful then any of the real dance acts.
Kylie's been in there a few times, great pop music yes, dance music no.
atleast motorhead got a grammy.:)
To be perfectly honest I didn't even know the Grammy's had aired until I saw this thread. Oh well - there's still MTV, MTV2, VH1, etc. when crappy music is needed...

I'm glad U2 got 5 grammys mainly because they're my favorite band. Regadless of what anyone says, U2 is a band that has stayed relevant. I think that says alot for how long they've been around. The Rolling Stones can't say the same.
I really enjoyed Coldplay's performance of "Talk". I've noticed recently Chris's stage prescence has gotten more Bono-esq. He seems to get into the crowd more often.

Perhaps you should have started a 2006 grammy thread;)
I was realy upset when they cut off the Wilson Pickett tribure at the end. That was an insult to Pickett, the performers and everybody watching. And the industry wonders why people bootleg concerts and download illegally. They don't care about the consumers, they just care about the sponsors.

I only saw a little bit of it, but it absolutely infuriated me when Paul McCartney played with Linkin Park. At first I was pissed because Linkin Park was playing a Beatles song, but then when Paul McCartney came out I was just mad that he would play with them. I hate Linkin Park about as much as I hate any band, and that McCartney would play with them really makes me think he's beginning to sell out...

According to the general consensus on this site, any band or singer who is a "pop" act is a sell-out. Going by that definition, Paul has been a sell-out his entire career, save for the late 60's.

Hilarious. Who wants to YouTube a video of this?
I am glad that U2 and Green Day won their awards because they were in catagories with Kayne West and he didn't win so that makes me happy. Also Mariah Carey sounded very good, that bitch can sing!
