View Full Version : albums in heavy rotation as of late.
i never have anyone cd in constant rotation 'cause i never leave a cd in the player for any period of time because what i'm in the mood for changes daily. however, the following have found their way in my player quite a bit over the past month or so:
hum-downward is heavenward
cocteau twins-head over heels
portishead-dummy (yeah i know it's not guitar based but it's great nonetheless.)
metallica-st. anger (go ahead and laugh...)
nirvana-in utero

Downward is Heavenward should have been the rock album of the '90's. It should be up there with Nevermind and OK Computer. DiH never gets old, either. Every time I listen to it (which is almost every day) its like hearing it for the first time. Can you tell I like Hum?:p

The guitar solo in "Glory Box" alone is enough to qualify it for guitar geekyness. There's a cat named John Martyn that does a REALLY cool bluesy version of that.

Excelent choices. I dont think i disagree with any of those. Maybe Television...Ive never really heard much from them? And I havent listened to Nevermind for ages. But that is a great soundtrack right there.

Why thank you. The thing I've noticed with Television is that you either love 'em or hate 'em...they're a very improv-oriented band, which bores a lot of people. I think of their sound as Rolling Stones meets New Wave. Their songs are very rewarding if you can manage to sit through them. Richard Lloyd is really an excellent guitarist, too.
Okay, enough ranting. If you want to hear something by them, I recommend downloading "See No Evil" or "Marquee Moon", for starters.
Dillinger Four - Versus God
Radiohead - Pablo Honey
Finley Quaye - Maverick A Strike
Nine Inch Nails - Things Falling Apart
Strike Anywhere - Change Is A Sound
Just taken out Pink Floyd - Echoes. Listened to that a hell of a lot.
QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE - Songs for the deaf
THE DIRTBOMBS - Ultraglide in black
THE DETROIT COBRAS - Mink rat or rabbit
RISE ABOVE West Memphis 3 benefit record (Black Flag covers)
MASTERS OF REALITY - Flak & flight

I hear you. "Ten" came out when I was in 7th grade and they've been one of my favorite bands since.....
I saw them two weeks ago, and it was one of the best shows I've been to. Don't care what anyone says about Eddie Vedder, I think he's damn cool. And Mike McCready is a beast when it comes to guitar playing.
