people knock 'pop' for being a pretty bad (as in bad) U2 album... but i've been listening to it while i am here waiting for the work day to end... and i think it's a pretty solid album.
but then again, i like electronic-y sort of stuff and i like the direction that they experimented with.
that's just me.
No, no! I totally agree - people crap all over Pop and Zooropa, and I think they're great. ("Gone" is one of my favorite songs of theirs.) They're definitely not the 'electronic' albums the press touted them as, but that's 'cause U2 isn't an electronic band. I think they're just rock albums with a bit of weirdness added in.
Of course, I prefer '90s U2 to the earlier stuff (Achtung Baby is one of my favorite albums). I'm just hoping that they can do better than their last; didn't care for it much.

yea, lately the production has been better than the music.

i read an interview with bono and he said that the next album is supposed to be heavily guitar based, with more muscle... we'll see... although, i didn't think the last album was that bad.
'beautiful day' was very over-played... but it wasn't ruined for me.
No, All That You Can't Leave Behind is pretty good, just kinda disappointing from a band that's done so much better. "Kite" is great, "Walk On" is cool....but there are a few ("Stuck in a Moment", for example) that kinda bug me. For most other bands it would still be a solid album, but by now for me U2 are held to a fairly high standard.
