View Full Version : Great Idea!
Ok, i came up with this great idea, we get some les pauls, crank our marshalls up to ten, wear converse, spike our hair, then sing really bad shallow pop songs and try to pass it off as rock!
o wait.....its already been done...by everybody...
no seriously, last night i was at a party, and some godforsaken person turned on the top 40 radio, and i found, that the justin timberlake christina aguilara stuff didnt bother me half as much as that good charlotte simple plan neopunk indie pop crap that all sounds exactally the same to me, now, i dont mean to offend anyone who likes it, i mean its a step up from nelly and that whole poprap stuff, but can somebody please explain to me the appeal of this whole scene that seems to be emerging?
Thom yorke was right, this is the gloaming

The appeal is nothing. People buy what you put in front of them.
People are stupid...like sheep, really.
People like what you tell them to like. Its just nature.

Exactly, if you ask people who listen to that music, why they listen to it, they have no idea, they just say, uh it's good, or it's cool. Then they ask you if your music is so good why isn't it on the top 40 or something, they are robots.

how can you slight st. louis' own Nelly?
With such pop classics as "Hot in Herre" and "country Grammar" his place is TOTALLY secured in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. I think he should get next year's lifetime achievement award at the Grammys because of all he's accomplished. Andale andale Mama Ei Ei Oh OHHHHHH!!!!

if people hear good music they latch onto it.
the best example is norah jones' album. without the internet she'd still be unknown, but once people started buying her records the industry bigwigs decided she was profitable and put her songs on the radio.
now they're trying to take away internet radio and file sharing, and in turn take away our right to choose what we want to hear, not to mention keep hundreds of amazing musicians' work from ever being spread to a wider audience than their local fans.
ahh, the end is near. i predict that the music industry will implode within the next 20 years (probably sooner) and be forced to listen to the people instead of their accountants and lawyers.

Everyone needs to start somewhere. A lot of great musicians started off listening to top 40, I'm sure.
That said, the ones I really resent are the top 40 listeners who think they're music genuises because they read a Rolling Stone article. You know, the ones who overuse the words "deep" and "potent" and "influential" to describe bands in the vein of Linkin Park.

Ugh, yeah and the word melodic, hell no! They are not melodic! Stupid magazines and bands throw around the word melodic so easily, they think everything is melodic, so people can't even tell the difference between excellent classical compostions and linkin ****, because they are both "melodic".

the first Good Charlotte record was okay. The songs were written well and had some cool little "ear candy" parts if you listen for it. It would have been better if they would have stopped saying things like "uh" and "yea" in every break of a song.
Just my 2 cents.

These are all good examples of one reason I choose not to have friends.
