the wonderful greatness that is Bjork.
and of course, depeche mode.

And New Order, even though it IS guitar based, but people don't seem to think so.

Not much, actually. Guitar is at least somewhat prominent in most of the music I listen to. Let's see...Kraftwerk, Portishead, Massive Attack, and Stereolab are some.

Good thread, by the way.

Beethoven's piano pieces are easily some of my favourite music.

Miles Davis is also an example of great music.

Anyone ever heard Neil Young's ELECTRONIC album, "Trans" from 1983? Long out of print, for some reason. Good stuff! I especially recommend the song "Transformer Man"! Neil Young through a vocoder!!! Who would have guessed?

That's really pushing it, there. Entirely revolving around guitar, no, but there is quite a bit of guitar involvement in their music.

I know, but they also do alot of electronic type stuff. They all use guitars in a big way, but there music is not really 'guitar based'.

Either way, Its really not that important, is it?

i love bjork, she's one of the most original musicians, and she plays so many styles, jazz, techno, industrial, trance, electronic, and alot of other weird crap, she can play like over a dozen instra ments, she can make the coolest music out of a cookie sheet, a box full of light bulbs and a big rubber garbage can(this stuff sounds odd because i just made it up but the girls got rythm).
i also like alot of that turntable stuff, i used to mess around with turntables untill i sold them to repair my PA speakers, they'res a lot of cool stuff in the world of battle djs, who would of thought that you could make one of the coolest instraments out of modded up record players? some cool dj groups are, the invisible scratch pikls and the world famous beat junkies, theirs dj swamp who i think should play with some metalcore death band, because his stuff is sick, like f*cking dead bodies sick, its really fun to watch them in compitition because they just keep trying to dominate each other, the art of turntablism isnt as big as guitar so its alot easier to be orgional or be the first to do something, where as in guitar its like so much has been done so you're constantly being told "steve vai did that" or "you're trying to be like van halen"ect... but i'd still pick up my guitar and jam over turntables any day.

A couple of months ago, I only listened to rock. Then I discovered the beauty of electronica. Some of my favorite artists now are: DJ Shadow, Kid Koala, Cut Chemist, DJ Krush, DJ Q-Bert, Invisibl Skratch Piklz, and DJ Spooky. If you are looking to expand your musical taste, definately check out some of the above bands.

Autechre has released many albums, not sure which one you are referring to, and they all range from extremely interesting and beautiful to disorienting and noisy. They are amazing manipulators of sound.

Could you recommend some of the more extremely interesting and beautiful songs? I've heard of Autechre (from 'similar artists' to Aphex Twin) and want download some of their stuff, but I don't want to be turned off by seven minutes of static.

Electronic music is amazing but I find when I listen to a lot of it my ability to write songs on guitar goes downhill....odd

Beethoven is good stuff, as well as Bach and Handel. If you want to hear some real messed up stuff, check out some Charles Ives.

Now I just know I'm gonna catch some s**t for this, but I do pop in some N.W.A. every once in a while. That stuff is classic!

Speaking of comparing Bjork...

Anyone find striking similarities between her and the singer from Catatonia? Steve?

In looks mostly, but partially in voice.

Thank you! Hey, I'd completely forgotten I'd written that!!! I didn't even rip that one off from Sifl & Olly. I just got a chuckle out of that myself, 'cuz it was like I was hearing it for the first time. Does it still make me an arrogant asshole if I can't remember writing it?
