im interested in how to get the best tone for a Carcass/ Slayer type rhythm setup. Whats the best pickup, eq, and amp setup. I want killer distortion that sound great with playing fast muted 16th note rhythm for my LIVE setup. Im thinking of an buying one or two EMG 85/ 81 going into my Marshall SL-X. And I am thinking of buying a BBE and or an GEQ or PEQ. I want it smooth yet i want every 16th note to cut thorugh. And Ideal?

Instead of a BBE, I'm pretty sure the Boss EH does pretty much the same thing in the effects loop of a good amp... EMG's are good pickups for the stuff you are talking about, very clear and sustainy but distorts and feedbacks pretty hardcore... for distortion my friend has a Boogie v-1 bottle rocket that is a great Mesa-sim for that big distortion sound... Uh 5150's, Mesa's and Marshall's are all good gain amps if you can afford them.. I dont think 5150's are taht expensive any more. Hope that helped.

hi.....
well for my distortion i use a zoom tri-metal(tm-01).......i dunno if anyone heard this thing.......but to me i get my best distortions here......it sometimes get a little fuzzy at times so i use an equalizer and a compresor to get that tone going...i play death to power metal.as long it is hard s***.....

yea, get some EMGs and some cool high gain amp. EMGs are the main thing though

I hate to let the cat out of the bag, but the Boss Hyper Metal pedal, (now discontinued) is one of the best distortion pedals ever for getting your line just hott! Besides that if you tweak the EG a little, it happens to be the best METAL pedal ever. Run that through a Marshall without too much gain and it will rip your face off! FOr ReAL!

The Slayer EQ box is not a mystery. It is an older (dicontinued) 10-band Boss half rack space unit. I forget the model number right now, but I could find it if some one really cares.

Kerry King tends to boost his mids on both his JCM 800s and his EQ rather than scooping them like most people, and of course you are required to use an EMG 81 in the bridge position.
