Hey there, I am looking for a power amp to use with my Digitech 2120, I would prefer a solid state one as I don't want to spend too much money and also I am only using the rack for effects (I am gonna A/B/Y is with my TSL)
Are there any good solid state power amps? And if so can you name them and tell me where to buy them please?
Cheers

I guess I'll step up to the S.S. thread LOL. after all I do use them. Marshall 8008's are my favorite. You may need two of them though, or just run one mono instead of stereo. (more power) They sell for $150-200 on ebay. Then theres the rocktron velocity. About the same price, some times harder to find, and the ada bs200?? I think thats what its called, usually $200 dollars. You can get a marshall 9000 tube poweramp for close to $200 on ebay if you look around long enough, but I didnt get very good results out of mine, but some love em', just depends.

Right, cheers. I'll have a look around, are all of these sterio? as that is quite a vital thing in what I want to use the power amp for.

I cant remember for sure if the ada is stereo, but I think it is. I like those poweramps because they are very transparent. Also, you could check out mosvalve, I have not owned those yet, but the loudest and best sounding poweramp I have is an old dean markley rm-100. They came in tube and ss. I have both and LOVE the 6l6 version. They are really hard to find but sound absolutley killer.

Nice, what do you think of the Marshall 9005? Looks quite good to me (just gotta watch for one on eBay).
Oh yeah and also I am in england if that makes any difference to what I can get.

that marshall 9005 is what I had, mine didnt sound good, but that may have been old tubes, also I like 6L6 amps over el34s. But MANY people like el34's so Id give it a listen. Is marshall very common is england since they are made there? Here in nashville I see more peavey new and used than anything, but marshall i easy to find as well.

Marshall is the most common amp your gonna find down here in england yes.
Is the 9005 solid state? if it isn't how many valves does it have?

its tube, it has two 6l6's per side, so four, and I think 4 12ax7s. I'm pretty sure its the 9005 i had. Ive got a pic of it in my gear page (www)

yeah, I know its got 4 power tubes, and either 2 or 4 12ax7s. Mine said 9000 on it, but I think its the same thing as a 9005. It was almost loud enough, but my two marshall 8008s blow it out of the water when it comes to volume.

I want my sound to be sterio most of all (as well as sounding good as well) My preamp is sterio (has left and right outputs), does this mean I need a sterio power amp aswell to get sterio sounds? I want it so I have 2 speakers and the sterio effects are.. well sterio lol, like panning from speaker one to speaker two.
The 8008 looks like my best bet really, but is it sterio? and if not, does this mean that I have to get two of them to get the sound I want?
How about the Mosvalve 962 power amp? It's solid state, stereo 80 watts per side, nice and light in a rack at around 7-8 lbs and has no expensive tubes to worry about. They don't make 'em any more but they are out there.
I bought mine for $75 although they don't usually go for more than $100 on ebay, and it sounds pretty good (especially for the price).
Just an idea. Good luck!

the 8008 is stereo, I just run two cause my band is so loud. Say you hook up yer preamps left and right into yer poweramps left and right, and then into seperate cabs, its still not gonna sound anymore stereo than just having everything mono into two diff cabs. If you have a stereo effects processor then it will, but for an ultimate stereo effect you might look into getting a second preamp. that way yer ears will hear two seperate tones coming from two seperate sides.

Well the preamp I am running (digitech 2120) is sterio and has sterio effects, it has features like you can pan tube distortion left and solid state right and stuff, but would that mean the power amp would pick that up and do that?

ohhhh ok, so you are running a digitech, yeah, any stereo poweramp will do that, you will need two seperate speaker cabs though.

Yup i'm gonna get 2 1X12 cabs (in order to not over power my TSL with a 2X12 cab, I'm using the TSL for normal sounds and the digitech for wierd effects.)
Thanks for all the help.
