i have an 8 space case for my rackmounted guitar units and it didnt come with any wheels. im wondering if its posible to add them in because my case is really heavy due to my mesa dual rec rackmounted in there. i was thinking about just screwing them under the case but then the bolts will be in the way of my rack gear inside. can anyone tell me how i can add wheels to my case without it taking up any space inside?

I have a 12 space that I added wheels to, the rack is so heavy that you need to bolt a metal frame to the bottom or the wheels will never stay on tight. I grinded off the ends of the the bolts to insure they could never come off, Mine has lasted me already for a year with no probs. its an skb though, so I could bolt directley to the metal in the cases frame, yet I still installed metal reinforcment bars cause you know how heavy rack systems get LOL, and it takes up no space at all if you point the screws to the floor and grind the ends off.

When I got my 12U ATA case last March, it didn't have wheels either. What I ended up doing is getting a sheet of plywood (3/4" thick) and drill the appropriate holes in the bottom of the rack case and the plywood and bolt/attatch the wheels. Thats what I did. Here's a better suggestion I wish I did instead (and probably will get around to eventually): get a sheet of plywood (3/4") and bolt wheels onto it (paint it black too). Now just let your rack case sit on the plank of wood. That way it won't be heavier when you lift it and you can use the plank for other heavy things if you need to transport other stuff/gear.
Also... for wheels. If you plan on buying your own seperately... or whatever. I'd suggest two industrial locking wheels (for the front) and two industrial straight wheels (for the back). That way your plank/rack won't be turning everywhere when you are pushing it around. Small hallways could ding up your case pretty quick.
Yea make sure you get 2 straight and 2 pivoting. I made the mistake of listening to my drummer and putting on 4 pivoting. I sometimes just lift it up and carry it because it goes all over the place, and you know how front end heavy racks get so that doesn't help

My rack (and my bassists rack), have four wheel pivoting casters, and they have never caused a problem, or made it hard to control the rack. Actually made it easier to mauver in and out of tight spaces on a few occasions......but, whatever.
