Im looking for actually a whole new rig but right now a bass. My band has a metal/industrial sound but im not sure as to what bass would be best suitable for that sound. Any thoughts?

fender or ernie ball basses all the way!!! my current favorite fender bass is the "deluxe pbass" that has both p and j bass pickups, and the jazz neck and precision body... if i played bass, that is what i would want!
that or a 5 string stingray.. those are awesome
dont know enough to help you with amps/effects.. i like my bassist ODB3 a lot, but it might not be cool to the big time bass purists

umm well heres the jist of it: I was really lazy in school this year and got **** grades, and my dad said if i got all a's and two b's on my first card this upcoming year i get $700 towards whatever i want. Is it possible to build a good live bass rig (industrial) for 700?

is the ODB 3 the bass overdrive pedal? Because, ive been checking that out and the big muff PI (russian) and cant decide, i like the heavy tone from the big muff but the sound from the odb is great...... help me choose!
I got in on the post-NAMM sale on www.carvin.com and got a B4 bass w/active electronics and a case for $447. That's less than a MIM Jazz or Precision w/a case!!! That was 50% off the options, active electronics, $100 off the total price, and a free case. Absolutly KILLER deal and bass. The sale was on 'in stock' items only and they had a black one and that's what I wanted. Right now, I couldn't buy the KIT for this bass for that price!!!!
This is the best bass I've ever played. I have 1/8" action at the 12th fret w/o any buzzing!!! Well, it buzzes a tiny bit w/o an amp, but the buzz doesn't come through on recording or through an amp. A cool feature w/Carvin's active electronics is that if the battery dies mid gig, you can just pull up on the volume knob, which is a push/pull, and now your bass is passive but w/o any tone control. But, at least it isn't dead!
I don't know if they've done this sale before this last one; I don't know if they'll do it again next year, but it might be worth the wait. It was for all guitars and basses in stock only, no custom orders applied to the sale.

well, i, the nonbassist ,who knows a little by researching stuff with my bassist friend, think it would be possible to make a quite decent rig with that.
if you're going all NEW (which with ebay is not necessary) you can get a fender standard precision bass for 390 and a bassman 60 for another 390.. leaving you paying 80 bucks over, and thats IF you go all new (im assuming the cables are already owned). TO ME i think thats a quite nice rig.. but you might not be a fender fan like me..
nevertheless, it can be done (in my opinion)!
ALSO about the odb3.. it sounds good to me. in the stuff that we play, the bass's tone isnt quite as important as mine (in my opinion) and the ODB3 covers all of his gain needs, and quite nicely if you ask me.
i havent heard the big muff, but hear good things about it. unless im mistaken someone on here recently got one with intention to use it on bass, they could tell you way more than i could
tone is subjective, try them for your self!
i might not have any business talking bass, but perhaps i helped a little

If you intend to try gigging with this rig that amp will not be loud enough. That there is somewhere in the equivalent of a 15 watt guitar amp. I have a 100 watt tube bass amp and that is a small stage rig.

Thanks for the suggestions, but as far as industrial goes and my stage style ( i jump around alot and yeah) i need a bass that gets great low end and can withstand a few bumps and knocks! help!
Then don't go cheap. Stay away from low end gear; get quality. My Carvin is a bolt on but you might prefer a neck through. Then again, if you're that rough w/stuff, it's alot easier to replace a body or a neck that's bolted than a neck through.
I agree with UGB on that.
You would be much better off buying a bass
a little higher up the price range... I think...
However Fender basses can be bought quite cheap,
maybe second-hand...
They will put up with alot of beating. :D
If you're really into that deep low end,
might I recomend maybe a 5-string. There are quite a few Fender 5-strings around.
(or you could just rid yourself of that G-string and add a B-string instead on a four string)
And I also warmly recomend active electronics.
It adds much more low end bite!

If i had the money for a music man, trust me..... id have one! but much to my demise, i need a job and my limit is only 700 but one day maybe...... btw this h4lofourt33n on a different name
i suggest trying the yorkville 100 bass amp. it's perfect for rehersals/gigging. i've jammed with this (rental), and it's the best bass amp i've played so far.
