I have a bass with an active preamp that is steadily draining power from the battery even when the bass is not being used. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this, besides leaving it for 3 weeks or more with a tech at some shop?
Thanks,
Jack

Do you leave your cable plugged into the bass?
Most active guitars use a switch similar to a stompbox where the pre-amp is turned on whenever a cable is connected.
Otherwise it's probably a short, and you could maybe trace it out with a multimeter.

Thanks, I don't leave the cable plugged in. That's why I'm so lost on this. The wiring is obviously correct, or at least correct enough for the bass to work and sound amazing. But within a week my battery is dead. But if I disconnect the battery after each use it lasts. But that's just a pain in the ass.

Wierd. I'd make sure the signal, and power wires are connected to the jack correctly (Should be a stereo jack). I'm assuming it's never switching the pre-amp off.

i would make sure nothing is shorted out because if something is it will drain a battery fast
