"Love is Blindness" off U2's Achtung Baby.
"Dream Brother" from Jeff Buckley's Grace. This one's a great opener too, which he demonstrated at his live shows.
I'm not going to try for all time best ever because guaranteed I'll think of a better one five minutes after I post it, but the first one that popped into my head was
Come Back - Foo Fighters One by One
I don't know what it is about that song but I really like it and it does a great job of finishing the album.

I really dig "Assemble the Empire", on the end of "Wiretap Scars" by Sparta, it's just so chaotic at times you just kinda wonder what's gonna happen next. Oh, there are many more, like "Third Eye" by Tool on Aenima, "We're Not Gonna Take It" by the Who on Tommy, and even "Aerials" by System of a Down on Toxicity. I think that tune's a great way to end an album. OF course, the hidden track kinda wrecks it.

"Love is Blindness" off U2's Achtung Baby, I agree.
What an awesome ender to an amazing album.
Blowout, by radiohead if you consider that teh END of pablo honey.
"Clean" off depeche mode's violator.
"Hurt" off Nine inch Nails' brilliant Downward Spiral album.
"Street Spirit" is another great ender by radiohead,
other great enders include the last song on V.A.S.T (a band every single one of you should check out)
U2 also ends Josua Tree with the marvalous "Mothers of the Dissapeared" Incredible. ****ing incredible, man..

No, Nobody got it right.
It WAS 'Soon' from Loveless.
Well done Nobody - you keep these young whippersnappers in line.
Also worth looking at though are
Time Thief - Comforts of Madness - Pale Saints
A Natural - Heartworm - Whipping Boy
Vapour Trail - Nowhere - Ride
OX4 - Going Blank Again - Ride
Something More - Whirlpool - Chapterhouse
And 2nd place?
I Want You - Elvis Costello's Greatest Hits.
I know he's had about 50 greatest hits, and greatest hits shouldnt be allowed on here, but COME ON, that song is magnificent.
"God of wine" - Third Eye Blind - Third Eye Blind
"when (And if) the big one hits... i'll just meet you there" (http://artists.iuma.com/IUMA/Bands/pAper_chAse,_the_the_paperchase/) by the pAper chAse from their album "young bodies heAl quickly, you know".
And does it get any better than "A Day in the Life"?!??!?!! The orchestra was told that they have a certain number of measures to go from this note to that note. As I understand it, they were given no further instruction. They just wanted to see how these classically trained squares would deal with it. How cool is that?!! Then that long chord. Then that loop in that groove at the end of the record...
(wandering, slightly, from the topic)
That loop is a really cool idea that I would like to experiment with. I wanna make a double album so I can do four of those loops. One could be some kind of drone, another could be a drum beat... I've got ideas, don't you worry! Someone MUST have done something like this before. I know, The Beatles, duh, but theirs was basically random noise. Anyway, I was thinking I would put the EVEN sides on one record, and the ODD sides on the other. So instead of having one record with sides 1 & 2 and the other with 3 & 4, I would have one with 1 & 3 and the other with 2 & 4. That way, people with two turn tables could just let the loop at the end of an album side play out for as long as they're feelin' it, and it could make for a smooth transition into the next album side, faded out to suit their taste as the next side is playing...

Nobody's put this yet, so I will:
"Our Singer" - Pavement, Slanted and Enchanted
Gradually they strip away all the instruments as the opening chord slowly repeats and then the lone guitar just stops.
Others (people like these, too, apparently)
"Street Spirit"-Radiohead, The Bends
"All Apologies"- Nirvana, In Utero
"Would?" Alice in Chains, Dirt
"Her Majesty" - The Beatles, Abbey Road
"Butterfly"- Weezer, Pinkerton
(it breaks my heart: Rivers softly singing, almost whispering "I'm sorry" over a strummed C chord and a final arpeggio before silence)

I first heard it with the glider EP - remember thinking 'whats going on here?' cos it sounded NOTHING like 'Isnt Anything', and then that big guitar comes in, the top of your head lifts off and all is right with the world again.
Apparently, the drums are sightly off kilter with each verse - deliberately so - if you dance to it, you have to keep stopping and starting.
Kevin has started recording again, apparently - a couple of new songs are appearing on a compilation soon.
Fingers crossed....
I always wondered why so few people actually talk about the differences between 'Isnt Anything' and 'Loveless'.
Both utter works of genius, granted, but so different in style and application. With a lot of bands album B is a natural progression from album A, or just more of the same, but you couldnt say that here. There is only one song from Isnt Anything that would fit on Loveless, and even then it would look slightly out of place....
I miss My Bloody Valentine.
By the way, isn't 'Scottish Fiction' the last song on 'Remote Part'?
Idlewild - now they are a GREAT band......

That album has so many messages and its kinda heavy when you listen to the whole thing. This is a perfect ending becuase its upbeat and has a somewhat light message.

technically its called in remote part/ scottish fiction
If that's the case, I'm having Sight Of You/Time Thief from 'Comforts of Madness' by Pale Saints.
Sight of You = Best Song Ever
Idlewild are a tremendous band - I saw them for the first time recently, just before the new album came out, and they did a fantastic singer+acoustic 'remote part'.
I do like that album, but I do prefer '100 broken windows' and 'Hope is Important' - the best songs on those albums are better than best songs on 'Remote Part'. But 'Remote Part' has fewer duffers.....
BTW, the best song they have ever done is 'A Distant History', b-side to 'You Held...'. What a BRILLIANT song - it's like all the best bits of all their best songs in one easy to swallow package....

+4783 for Only in Dreams by Weezer. Can anyone argue that it's NOT so goddamn amazing?
I really like Pink Maggit by Deftones. The way you can hear Chino's heartbeat at the end is amazing. I think it really sums up the claustrophobic mood of the record.
Under The Wheels by My Vitriol. A beautiful yet very short song. I love the way all that emotion gives way to the drum beat which is slowly risen to ridiculous volume levels and compressed to hell before it just cuts out like that.
Also, Butterfly by Weezer. A lovely cliched slow number to end the album. It just WORKS baby!

Sandblasted Skin (Pantera, The Great Southern Trendkill) is a cool song by itself, but it was extra sweet to stick the loudest number at the end of the record, fade it out, then fade it back in. Seems the last song is always the best one on the album.
Another good pick would be the ending of October Rust by Type O Negative. The second to last track is this long, mellow song that damn near puts you to sleep. It just drags on forever and then gets abruptly interrupted by this:
Well, that's about it. Hope you weren't too disappointed. Catch us on tour... till then, take it eas-

everybody says Triad by Tool, but i actually think the three-track arc of Disposition/Reflection/Triad is actually the perfect way to end an album. what better conclusion than a 23-minute build up to absolute sonic devastation?
