What do you think might be high in sound quality, simplicity and inexpensive and usable on PC (I'm considering using a software program if you haven't guessed)...

It's a total minefield becuase what's good for one person may suck for another. Persoanlly I like Pro Tools, but 50% of the people I work with hate it and prefer Cubase, Nuendo or Logic.

There's lots of freeware and shareware to start off with - no better price than that :)

I would also download the demos of some software and try them out to see which one you get on well with before purchasing, there's loads: Audition, Logic (Mac only unfortunately), Sonar, Cubase, Nuendo, Pro Tools, Live, Acid Pro, the lsit is endless...
