George's music has a lone Danelectro hodad sitting on the wall. it is their only one, and is about 450 US. I played it, and I liked everything about it. the bigsby tremolo, the blue sparkle, coil taps, phasing, the neck, gibson-style switching. has anyone had any experience with this guitar? any good/bad things to say about it?

I'll say that $450 is too much to pay for something Danelectro makes....

But if it feels good to you, and it sounds good to you, then you need to listen to you.

You have to pay/play the thing....

I've been wanting to playing one of those for a while. But maybe not for $450.

Check out what others at Harmony Central paid (not many above $300).

I know they're discontinued, but I would look around more.

Be prepared to re-wire the electronics. My Dano Double-neck was full of ground loops and cold solder joints. Also, I paid $575 Can.(+/- $375 US) for it new.

i'd say 450 is WAY to much. i had one for a littel while (see pawn shop guitar thread) and really dug it, but then again I only paid 80 bucks for it.

look around, you can definatley find then a lot cheaper.

i was always wary of danelectros. even their pedals. my bandmates destroyed my dan echo. but since then i've resoldered the connections twice and fixed it up. my favourite pedal now.

BUT this is about a hodad. my girlfriend just got one for around 300 off ebay. it was in completely brand new condition. that felt under the vibrato bar was still white and new [wtf is that peice of felt for? i cant get it off. it's an annoyance to my fingers] i think it is a pretty good guitar. i can't do everything my mosrite and strat do, obviously, but the guitar gave me some badass tones to work with. the coil tap helped out a lot and that phase switch seemed to be pretty keen as well. i really enjoyed the neck on that thing. a bit chunky compared to the thin mosrite and my whatever shape fender neck i have. but it was incredibly easy to bend notes. and extremely low action. if you're looking for really good overdriven tones and to do the surf thing. i say look into getting one somewhere else for less than 450. but indeed, do look into getting one.

It's so you won't scratch up the Bigsby or guitar when you turn the handle around to put the guitar in a case.

I think they started doing it just recently with the "licensed" Bigsby clones. My DeArmond had the little felt pad, but I took a hair dryer to it and removed it. I just want to feel bare metal when I use my Bigsby.

I own two hodad's. The first one I got from a pawn shop in town for 235 dollars, it was near mint, and a dark brown sparkle color. I really liked the way it felt along with the vintage looking tremolo, lipstick pickups and different sound you could get from the push-pull pots. I picked up the second from ebay for 375 dollars because it was mint in the original box with all hang-tags. I just think they're really a great looking and sounding guitar, and they really take me back to my 60's garage band days, as this was the only type we could afford, similar to the silvertones, kay's and kent's. In closing I'd say no amount of money is too much for something that makes you happy. Many time I've paid more on things that caught my eye or brought back memories, but then again I wasn't making price comparisons, just paying what I felt it was worth to me.

sorry guys, what do you want from an old man, who's a little computer illiterate. I was just crusing for information on danelectro's on google and it led me to your forum. I didn't even see the dates of the posting till you brought it to my attention. Oh well I was always a late starter, sorry.

No problem at all!

Once in a while we get a thread that comes out of the grave.

This is a nice, not-so-little-anymore online community. You are welcome to have al the "senior moments" you want. You're just gonna have to suffer the busting when you do. :D

Like I said before, welcome!!!

Just ask here. Mot of us know our way around a computer.

You can post it in the debriefing-deprogramming forum.

That's a pretty big community rule, we like to have the posts in the appropriate forum.

ive had a couple and wish i had kept at least one. they are great sounding guitars. but i found a couple of suckers who paid 450+ for mine.

really i would NOT pay more than 300 for one and would kinda feel like i got a ****ty deal if i paid over 250. they are just super cheapo guitars even if they do sound great. plus with the dano stuff you gotta be careful. so many of those new danos had poorly cut frets and are just kinda ****ty.

if you find a good one though you never know....still i wouldnt personally pay 450 for it.
