View Full Version : Mono to Stereo signal? Is it possible?

Is it there a piece of gear out there that will split a mono signal into a stereo signal?

I just bought a preamp that only has a mono input and mono output. If there isn't i'm going to have to sell it again.

This is going to seriously put a damper on my current plans. If there isn't a piece of gear to split the signal, do you guys have any suggestions on what I can do to make it a stereo signal? Any help is greatly appreciated.

You never mentioned what gear you were using.....are you going from a mono preamp into a stereo power amp?

If that's your problem, just get any decent Y adaptor.

If that's not your problem, I'll need more details.

Sorry about that. I just got ahead of myself. I'm starting to get frustrated with this project.

My planned setup:
guitar > gainiac 2 > line splitter > 2 channel eq > mesa 50/50 > custom cab.

What I was originally wanting was a stereo signal all the way through. When it hits the power amp, one channel is going to be powering 2 12's, and the other is going to be powering a 15". The gainiac is a mono, which really puts a damper on this thing. It was a spur of the moment buy, so i went for it without thinking. Mostly because i wanted a lot of gain. 100db of gain is more than enough.

I am looking for something in the form of rack gear so i don't have to worry about loose equipment.

Sorry Im having trouble following, but I was wondering what you are using to split your guitar signal. I run mine into a rewired a/b box, but Id like to get something else.

You could just add a rack fx processor. It will be able to take the mono in from your preamp and it will send out a stereo signal to your poweramp, if you want. And you will have some cool fx to toy around with.

Simplify......

Find something like the top, middle pic. Plug the two male ends into your EQ, and run a normal cable from your preamp into the female end.

guitar > gainiac 2 > Y-splitter > 2 channel eq > mesa 50/50 > custom cab.

Total cost ......>$20

I might be wrong, but most most poweramps inputs are "bridgeable" (if only one input is used, the signal goes to both sides).

I've never used one like that.....

.....atleast not in guitar power amps.

Well, I do it with my Marshall 20/20, I know you can do it with the Marshall EL34 50/50 and 100/100 (as well as with the 9100/9200).

Really bridgeable tube-poweramps ... there is at last the Peavey Classic Fifty/Fifty (and I am sure there are more).
