just got my new laptop and I need an external soundcard :)

These are in my price range:

Edirol UA25
Terra Tec Phase 26
Line6 Toneport
M-Audio Audiophile / Fast Track Pro
Mackie Spike XD-2
Tascam US 122

Any experience with them? I'm a complete noob in that field

edit: I only need stereo input

i had the us-122 (recently upgraded to a presonus firepod) and it did the job well.

it came with a free copy of cubase LE which is the program i still use to this day.

installation was easy and i was up and recording about 20 minutes after i opened the box. i used it with a laptop (1.6 ghz pentium M, 512 MB RAM, 100 GB hard drive) and never had any problems with things like latency or driver issues

for basic song idea capturing and even recording a band rehearsal (with the right mic), the us 122 is a good, solid unit

a good place to get recording info would be here:

the topics on the left are a real big help
