OK. Here's your chance to get your guilty pleasures off yer chest.

My current guilty pleasures:
- Justin Timberlake - Justified
- Michelle Branch - Hotel Paper
- John Mayer - Room for Squares
- Third Eye Blind - Out of the Vein

Hrm. Not sure if Third Eye Blind counts, but I like that CD.

What are your guilty pleasures?

Hey man, nothing is a guilty pleasure to me. My general rule is, "I like it, as long as it's not country or Avril." :)

Oh yeah, and I'm not afraid to talk about it either, man, because liking music shouldn't be a fear.

i dont feel guilty about exploring different styles of music at all. my friends make fun of me for listening to a lot of Dave Matthews (the older stuff), but i'm definitely not going to feel guilty about that! i like the music!

I like The Cranberries! And Live's Album "Secret Samahdi". I bought it when I was in junior high, and it just brings back a lot of memories, but I heard that they consider it their worst album... even thought they aren't really a good band anyways. I like Alanis Morisset's stuff... just to play in the car.

Exactly. No one of my peers seems to take this kind of music seriously, not even the lead singer in my band.

I mentioned this in another thread...Shakira, Norah Jones, The Donnas, and early Dr. Dre/Snoop Dogg. That and Roald Dahl books, which I still read regularly.

Is anybody gonna fess up to some real taboos?

I've developed a major chick-rock jones: Liz Phair, of course, she's amazing, and nothing to be ashamed of, but also Dar Williams (folk singer), Ani DiFranco, and Sleater-Kinney (they kick ass).

AndThenTheresMe

and of course, the Streets. Also, I enjoy just listening to "Damn it Feels Good to be a Gangsta" (which I know all the words to)

Did I mention I'm white? Really really white?

My girlfriend mentioned this song to me one time. She didn't know the artist, but i just heard it for the first time on VH1 ...

Liz Phair - "Why Can't I"

OK. That's a pretty catchy pop song.

Swervedriver, 99th Dream--their best-sounding album, IMO, even if the songs aren't quite as good as Mezcal or Ejector
Madonna, "Live to Tell"--her best and most sincere song.

Jeez, some of you people have no idea what a guilty pleasure is. Cheap Trick? Are you kidding me? Holy mackeral, what a great and influential band. Pink floyd? One of the most popular classic rock bands of all time? Ashamed of Motorhead? Please...i'm not even going to dignify that with a response.

I'm going to come clean with some bigtime guilty pleasures right now. I love ABBA! Dancing Queen is one of my favorite songs ever. Nothing sounds like that record, it's magic. Now, i know it was a huge hit back in the 70s and people love dancing to it at weddings, but i'm a rock guy. I'm all about led zepplin, queens of the stone age, nirvana, jesus lizard, etc. So for me to like lightweight swedish pop is something i'm slightly ashamed of.

I also love avril lavigne. Love her songs! I sat and watched a live concert thing of hers on the family channel and enjoyed every freakin minute of it. I'm a 33 year old guy. I'm way past my teen angst. I'm pretty well adjusted. But i love some of her songs. I even got a little broken up at the end of the special because her grandfather had just died and she had to go out onstage and play. She was crying while she was singing the song she dedicated to him. I was very moved and was so glad nobody was around to see me watching this thing.

Whew! I'm glad i got that off my chest.

OK, i could see that. Like "the flame" and that stuff? Yeah, it's a little sucky. Although, i like it. That came out my freshman year in college, so i have some good memories attached to that song. The self titled record they put a few years ago is really good.

My better half is a goth/rock chick, and even SHE gives me a hard time for liking 'I Want You to Want Me' by Cheap Trick.

But if that song doesn't make you want to get down and boogie (ahem....), nothing will.

BTW - Swervedrivers best album was the first one, Raise. I mean, 'Son of Mustang Ford', and 'Rave Down' are two absolutely BRILLIANT songs. The only song they did that comes close was 'Never Lose That Feeling'.

NO WAY are swervedriver a guilty pleasure....

I don't feel guilty about any of the modern music I listen to.

However, I will name one because NOBODY and I mean NOBODY likes it.

St. Anger.

I ****ing love St. Anger.. lol. Go ahead, stone me to death

I should start a support group for the 2 or 3 people on this planet who also like St. Anger.

The first step to resolving a problem is admitting you have it..

Well, there's nothing WRONG with it until you compare it with Metallica's previous work. I didn't really like it at first either, but it grows on you. I think James sounds awesome with a baritone guitar.. and the snare ring, honestly, it blends in after the first few listens..

Everyone was like "Oh man, it sounds like he is beating an oil drum..."

My response was "Cool eh!!"

Seriously, its not as good as their other stuff, but I like it.

My biggest guilty pleasure is Creed, circa My Own Prison and Human Clay. Actually, the first album shouldn't be a guilty pleasure cause its actually really good. Or maybe thats the guilt talking... anyway... I really like it.

The new one is a pile of crap though... :(

Britney Spears

Kylie Minogue
The Hives

and there's a good handful of emo/pop-punk bands that have ridiculously catchy lyrics and/or melodies.

and there are so many cheesy 80s bands and singers ... i love almost all of it.

hip-hop ... i dig guys like 2Pac, Snoop, Dr. Dre, Warren G, Biggie, etc.

trance/techno ... there's a lot of cheesy dance music that's awesome.

Ah.....looking through this thread, I can definitely say that I can relate.

I have alot of different friends; punks, metalheads, hip hoppers, alternative kids that take morning art classes at Columbus College of Art and Design and listen to Radiohead, that kind of thing, so needless to say, I don't fit completely into any of those categories. All of us smoke pot though, which brings everyone together. I don't see why Bush and Saddam can't just sit down and one say to the other, "Hey, I'm sorry my country bombed the **** out of yours and the whole continent you inhabit as a whole. Now, what do you say to burnin' down a fat one?"

But thats going off on a tangent. Anyway, I have alot of different tastes in music. Some of my guilty pleasures.....

Bette Midler
Iron Maiden (Alt kids got me down for this one)
Megadeth (See above)
Early Metallica (Above again)
ABBA somewhat
The Cars
I ****ING LOVE NEW WAVE POP
Alice in Chains
Seal (****ing love him)
Flock of Seagulls
Pink Floyd

And then, somewhat of a guilty pleasure, my favorite band........Nirvana. They were mistakingly lumped in with "grunge" bands, though they did sound similar to most real grunge bands, i.e. mudhoney, and associated themselves alot more with punk, as did most of their fans. A big reason why alot of people don't like them or think they are overrated is because mtv and everybody and their grandma overhyped them so much. They really were an amazing band though. Great songwriting, great energy, not a big contrived piece of ****. And thats why I love them. All of my punk friends hate them though. And then theres their fans, which I hate. Its always these ****ing stupid kids who only listen to smells like teen spirit and missed the whole picture and read kurt cobains journal like its their ****ing bible or something. The band turned into everything it was against in the first place. So thats kind of why they're a guilty pleasure for me, not because of what I think of them, but what everyone else does.

I grew up in that era of Hair Metal and during my college years it was the beginning of grunge - both were eras that made it difficult to openly admit a love for Queen. I was also a punk fan so people would ask me how I could listen to both Ramones and Queen.
