you can record guitar w GB if you have a usb or firewire interface (+a mic if you want to record an acoustic)
garageband is basically the lite lite version of logic

The school that I attend has Macintosh computers, with GarageBand. I love that program. Is it available for PC, because that is what I own at home?

I'm guessing that you can record by micing an amp as well? maybe an dumb question, but I know nothing about recording, and I'll probably buy some smaller recording-gear to get some ideas on the computer...
Oh, sorry if I hijacked the thread... :o

Yup, you can do that. Of course, mic'ing an amp with a computer mic will just give you a big wall of overloaded mic preamp noise, so you'd need to get a soundcard or external mic interface.
I don't think you even need firewire or usb, my comp has a mic-in jack so i'm guessing if i could find a little piece that connect instrument cable to a 1/8in. (i think) plug in, then i could just go straight into the comp from the guitar

Its good for getting ideas down quickly and easily, but if u want something to record and master well with i would go with something better...

+1
It's a very easy tool to learn and use, so good for throwing ideas together, but somewhat limited if you want to do more elaborate/elegant things.
Not available on PC, but Ableton Live (expensive) and Acid (cheap) are and do similar things (I'm not sure if you can record into Acid).
