Guitar Scream?

Ok, the guitar at the start of the song "Whatever" by Our Lady Peace, in between the chords the guitarist mutes and gets the kind of squeal (sp?), just wondering anyone knows how to pull that off, I've got similar types of sound before but it was by accident and never anything I could replicate.

im not familiar with the tune.. just speculating: is it pinch harmonic related maybe? or maybe he's muting with his finger over a harmonic-producing fret? feedback? a combination of the last two?

i dont have kazaa or anything, but theres the off chance that you can go play with these and figure out thats what he's doing, so it was worth a shot. sorry i couldnt help more

i've found that certain guitars (it depends on the pickups) get this great microphonic squeal when you get really close, right up on marshall heads. i've owned more than one marshall and it worked on all of 'em with several different guitars. doesn't seem to work with my current sg for some reason. i've done it with a tele, my friends old '61 lespaul/sg jr, a rickenbacker 330 and my old les paul.

i've never heard the song you are talking about but...who knows it could be something like that.
