Hey, I'm using audacity and was wondering if there is any way to split an incomming stereo signal into two seperate tracks so I can adjust them independently of each other after recording? I'm guessing no, but any help would be cool

If no:

1) is there a patch someone has made to let me do this?

or

2) Is there a program that would let me do this?

thanks for the help guys:)

You can record in stereo but it's still considered one track I believe. However, you can select the left and affect it independently of the right and visa versa.

Go to Edit - Preferences and on the first tab (audio I/O) under recording, select 2 channels (stereo). This is on the latest version
BTW.

Good luck!

Whoa, RushFanLV thanks, you prompted a Ureka moment! I found the function to split a stereo track if anyone is interested:

configure the recorder for stereo tracks like RushFanLV explained, record the track. Once you've finnished recording, click the name of the track to get the drop down menu and there is an option called "split stereo track" this creates 2 very sexy mono tracks that can then be edited independently.

sweet, multi track recording! Now to get a setup that can do like 8 tracks through one plug.....

AWESOME! We both learned something new.

While trying to get to your answer today, I discovered that you can record whatever is playing on your computer at that time. I was playing some music with Windows Media Player and hit record and Audacity recorded the song that was playing. I use it to convert somgs to MP3s and put them on my phone as ringtones.

You can also make a stereo track out of two mono tracks using the same menu.
