I need a drum machine!!!

I am starting a new band. It will be a duo consisting of myself on guitars and a drummer. I want to incorporate beats of yesteryear (think 808 909) as well as tweaked psuedo realistic kits / beats into the fray of real time rockin. Think Battles, Trans Am, and Tortoise.

It must be easy to run in a live situation. I have not ever programmed a drum machine so it must be user friendly. I was thinking of the alesis SR-16

Not many positive reviews regarding that unit. General consensus is its difficult to program and the manual is *****. Being new to programming I would be hesitant to own that particular unit. Ill think about it though.

SR16 would seem to meet you needs. it has a good complement of synthetic drums as well as realistic.
