View Full Version : Tascam 488: How do I Mixdown to 2 Tracks?

I own a Tascam 488 8-track cassette recorder. The manual says that I need a seperate device to mixdown to 2 channels for a final, ready-to-distribute product, but what do I have to look for? Is it called a '2-track recorder' or a 'mixdown deck' or what? I can't find anything with either title on Ebay or Craigslist.
Do you guys know what I need to do this? Can I just use any old tape recorder?
I want the final format to be cassette tape, btw.
Thanks.

SO just any stereo cassette recorder then? That's a relief, thanks. They have L and R inputs right? 'Cause the 488 only has L and R outputs.

Yessir. That'd be how they work. Man, I miss my old Technics deck. There was an elegant simplicity in cassettes that has not been duplicated in our digital age of wonders.

So this (http://www.usedottawa.com/classified-ad/4268538&category=home-audio) would do fine, right?
Sorry for my ignorance, but I want to be sure:).

Yup. Like all things though: you get what you pay for. Might be a lot of hiss in your final mix down on that thing. What about mixing down to the stereo input on your computer?

i got tired of mixing down to cassette and got one of these (http://namm.harmony-central.com/SNAMM01/Content/Tascam/PR/CD-RW4U-large.jpg) in 2001. much more useful and much higher sound quality. and yes i still record every thing on cassette four track.
