Am I the only one that uses the Computer to process the guitar? I use
Native Instruments Reaktor
Native Instruments Spektral Delay
Native Instruments Vokator
Applied Acoustics Tassman
PSP 42
PSP 84
All The Ohmforce plugins..
I was just wondering if anyone else was into mangling guitar like me..

No...I used to do it alot more, I just lost interest in using my computer for music production. Though there is a new software based looper that might make me change that.
Mostly I spend 8 hours fixing computers at work, the last thing I wanted to do was come home and sit infront of one to do more work.

That's EXACTLY my same thoughts.
I used to really tweak my guitar sounds with VST plugins and DirectX plugins and such, but I find using pedals requires a lot less thought and allows me to focus on the musical piece rather than the technical aspect of the processing.
And I too work on computers 8 hours a day, so I have no desire to use one for music.
Plus, I find building and creating textures with stompboxes and simplier gear to be more satisfying and expressive.

I;m the same...I found when i started messing with VST's I forgot what I was doing. the sounds were becoming too complex and I knew I would have to mini-disk them live.....so I stopped and went back to my stompbox collection. I grabbed a couple plug-in recently, but I found no use for them....and nothing I couldn't get close to with my pedal collection....

I record everything on a computer, then I process the tracks heavily, with loads of effects and stuff.
The music I make is quite similar to Loveliescrushing and Yume Bitsu.... some kind of avant-garde ambient space...

I'd like to use my computer but I'm not sure what hardware/software I should buy. My situation is that I'm a singer/songwriter with no band (new to area) that lives in an apt. and there is NO WAY drums could ever happen at my house. I need to know what program can give me analog drum sounds and a way to put my vocals/guitar/bass onto the track as well. And master it all to a cd. And mix to mp3. Any help out there?

Im currently living in a hotel in Paris for at least a couple months. With me I brought a Line 6 Guitar Port, My Laptop, And my old Steinberger GM,(Of course I wont admit this.. If you hold it against me) Cubase SX, Amplitube, Reaktor, Tassman, Battery. I feel really liberated by this setup. Of Course I do have to midi automate all my effects changes. I feel like Im more musically productive not being overwhelmed by my rack and pedals.

Thanks for the help, thats a pretty involved set up. I'm just kind of looking for the bare essentials, I like to use my stompboxes. Of course I'll play around with the software, see what it can do. Is there any one program that I can import my voice/guitar/bass to and then add drums? I know I'll probably have to get a plug in for the drum sounds, It's very important that they sound analog, the only reason I'm even considering using my computer is that I don't have a band to try out my songs with. DEATH TO DIGITAL!!

Adding drums after, esp. Computer based ones is death unless everythig is perfectly in time, and you know hte exact BPM of the song.
I suggest building the drums first and going from there.

I also work on computers 8 (or more) hours a day. Eek.
I have more rack fx than pedals, because I figure I'm a computer guy, I should be able to program them, and I got them all cheap/great deals. But it gets frustrating sometimes. Pedals are definitely a lot of fun, and if you aren't in the mood to make music, you can always re-wire your pedal board. Kind of expensive once you pick up the habit. I've been resisting, but I would love to buy some of the crazy home brew fx pedals out there and twist knobs.
However, I have done some VST processing of guitar stuff, since I have a computer and some software. It seldom resembles making music though, and drum programming is really frustrating if you suck at it like I do. But I keep trying. :)
