Odd volume issues

What might cause my bass to suddenly just push out an excessive amount of volume for every E played no matter where it is on the neck? This just started the other day and I can't figure out what the hell is going on...

The rig in your sig appears to be a guitar rig.

What sort of amp are you using for bass?

It could be a resonance issue with either the instrument or the amp.

Have you tried another bass into the same amp, or the same bass into a different amp?

Actually the only difference in the rig I am playing now and the one in my signature is I took out the two combo amps and run the effects straight into a rack mount compressor and then into the behringer bass head. I have taken the compressor out of line and it still does the thing where all the E's are twice as loud. It hasn't done this in the past and just started the other day.
