This is a prototype of a new Solid Gold FX overdrive I got from Greg. It's a Marshall-voiced overdrive with a huge range of useful gain and what I'd say is the best damn Mid knob I've ever had the pleasure of twiddling. Knocked all the way back its scooped, but not ridiculously scooped. Straight up it's imparts a lovely, even fluidity to the sound, and jacked all the way it slices you through the mix nicely without getting that honking nastiness so many mid-humped overdrives are subject to.

There's a huge amount of boost available on it via the volume knob for pushing the front end of a clean tube amp nicely. I've been using it as a low-medium gain bridge between the clean channel and the overdrive channel on my Koch and it's worked very well.

Clips would help, eh? How can you buy a one-of-a-kind if you don't know what it sounds like?

Here's a much better picture of the SS454. And I just talked to Greg and confirmed: this is it folks. One of a kind. The pedal is not destined for regular rotation. What a deal!

Last bump for the night: I added clips.

Another clip added. I was asked what it sounded like boosting an overdriven amp.

i'm very interested. sounds pretty good in the clips. is there a pedal that is comparable in terms of maximum gain? not that i'm going to run it on max gain all the time but i'd like to know the overall range of dirt.

There's more gain on it than the SilverKiss I have. But not as much gain as an SD-9. Does that help?

I'll do another clip tonight that shows off the range of the gain. The gain and the volume knob are tied together. So if you zero the gain you get zero output. You need a touch of gain and then the volume knob works. And at max gain the volume range is huge.

So this thing has a bigger range of gain on it than I thought. Max on the gain knob is hairy. Clip is posted. If there's anything else you want to hear let me know.
