This is a prototype of a new Solid Gold FX overdrive I got from Greg. It's a Marshall-voiced overdrive with a huge range of useful gain and what I'd say is the best damn Mid knob I've ever had the pleasure of twiddling. Knocked all the way back its scooped, but not ridiculously scooped. Straight up it's imparts a lovely, even fluidity to the sound, and jacked all the way it slices you through the mix nicely without getting that honking nastiness so many mid-humped overdrives are subject to.
There's a huge amount of boost available on it via the volume knob for pushing the front end of a clean tube amp nicely. I've been using it as a low-medium gain bridge between the clean channel and the overdrive channel on my Koch and it's worked very well.
Clips would help, eh? How can you buy a one-of-a-kind if you don't know what it sounds like?
