I have an old fender jazz standard that I, in my lack of wisdom, strung with a set of flatwounds that weem to have, over the course of many months, slightly bowed the neck on it. I would have noticed earlier, but I rarely use that bass. I know you can adjust the truss rods, I just dont know how or even if that would help as it is bowed in a very slight U not just "leaning" forward. I am not even sure that entirely makes sense...if anyone knows if adjustment will help, or even how too adjust the rod i would be quite indebted.

thanks

Go here (http://www.mrgearhead.com/) and got the the "5 steps for a great setup" page. The directions are for a guitar not a bass but the adjustment is fundamentally the same. You should have a slot at the base of your headstock to slide an allen wrench into, that's where you adjust it at. I'm not entirely sure which direction your neck is bowed in, if it's too far towards the front of the guitar (bowed towards the strings) then you need to tighten the truss rod by turning the allen key counterclockwise (when looking up the neck from the body). I'd highly recommend not turning more than 1/4 turn a day at the absolute most. If the neck is bowed the other direction then turn the allen key clockwise (again while looking up the neck from the body). It is not an incredibly complicated process but if you feel uncomfortable doing it take it into a tech it shouldn't cost you too much.

There is nothing wrong with using flatwounds on your bass, they merely have a different pull on the neck than your previous strings did, you'd have the same effect if you changed string gauge, all it should require is a simple adjustment of the truss rod.
