advice for 40-60 watt mostly clean amp

title says it all. i've finally started gigging regularly and need to replace my custom vibrolux. too overdriven. im considering a head, something in the vein of a hiwatt/ reeves 50, fender bandmaster or bassman, marshall jtm 45, or possibly a dr z kt-45, so i can vary cabs depending on the venue, though a fender pro might be good. im looking for a warm, full sound with a touch of power amp drive for my telecaster, not an 80 watt amp that has to be cranked to sound good. can anyone suggest or attest to an amp that will fit the bill?

Re: advice for 40-60 watt mostly clean amp

I think your best bet would be the fender blues deluxe. it's super clean on the clean channel, although it gets a little broken up on the max volumes, and the dirty channel is great for the inbetween clean and distorted tone. If you put a drive pedal in front of the amp, it really opens up, though. it's 40 watts, not too heavy, has that awesome reverb, and looks cool with the tweed. really classic fender tones that isn't too expensive and won't break your back moving around

also, don't be fooled by the name; it's certainly excellent for them lonesome blues, but it can do everything else pretty f'ing well (except metal.... surprise surprise)

i just put this amp on layby this morning, but mainly for its overdriven tones on the clean channel. very stonesy, with almost a stooges thing going on the dirt channel. its a great amp, but for super clean tones i would be wary. i couldn't seem to get a clean sound out of my gibson les paul on the clean channel, unless it was below 2 1/2 to 3. if you're using the tele or something with a vintage styled output, it should have a very nice clean (with that awesome fender reverb). but im not 100% certain, so go play one and make sure to take your guitar.
otherwise, my recommendation would be something like a fender deluxe, and if you can afford it maybe one of the marshall vintage reissues - the bluesbreaker or 1974x.

that is a fair assessment of the BD; the humbuckers' higher output is going to make it harder to get clean tones out of the amp at higher volumes. I've got a strat and a tele both with vintage-ish pickups, and getting clean tones is easier than with my bandmate's SG that's for sure. My favourite thing about the amp is the dirt channel by itself or with a clean boost; gritty as hell but still feels like a pretty clean tone

thanks for the replies. im looking for something higher end. i've played several deluxes, and while they are nice, they aren't what im after. the super reverb is closer to what im after, but has anyone tried a savage blitz or glas? i've heard great things but nothing more detailed.

I doubt you'd be happy with the BD - it's not bad but it's kind of a step down from the Vibrolux Custom. An old Super Reverb really is the god of clean amps as far as I'm concerned. Love mine dearly! Haven't tried the others you mentioned but there's something magic about the Super Reverb circuit and the 4 alnico 10"s...
Not an easy amp to move around though.

those relatively new fender bassman '59 reissues are supposed to kick quite the serious amount of ass in terms of great cleans as well as really warm, natural overdrive. could be worth looking into

I had a Blues Deluxe for a good while. It's a decent amp, but I found I had to scoop the mids a bit with an eq pedal to get a standard clean sound...it was very mid heavy even when it wasn't breaking up.

this might be ridiculous on my behalf, but has anyone tried the lower wattage electric/matamp models? i was looking at the electric gz dual rectifier with tremolo and it seems like a monster of an amp. definitely a big purchase, but hopefully the last one needed

I seen a guy playing a mid watt budda amplifier on the clean channel with a strat and his cleans were extremely warm and great sounding. maybe somebody else knows more about these.
