For nailing that Metallica or Megadeth sound on a shoestring budget, the American Metal pedal really can't be beat. These are pawnshop staple and can usually be had for less than $25 bucks on a good day. With a little twiddling, you'll get that classic mid scooped tone in all its its 80s razor sharp glory. With the right axe in hand you can recall the glory days of Maiden, Accept, or the mighty Anthrax. While this is no replacement for a stage full of stacks, this a great pedal to tide you over until you step up. The metal moniker might scare off a few would-be buyers but this thing is great for flat out noise too. Peg the settings and you'll have access to howls, screeches, and creaks that are impossible to coax out of pricier pedals. As with most DOD pedal of this era, test the switch before buying as they tend to be a little unreliable.
