A no-nonsense tremolo/pannner with the standard rate, intensity, and sine wave dials. All the parameters are ultra-responsive and tackle all kinds of tremolo tricks. From soft to choppy, the TS-1 performs admirably. The rate knob is sensitve and goes from slow to fast with just a slight turn. It takes some getting used to and you'll probably end up marking your settings on the casing to remember your favorite sweet spots. We noticed slight drop in volume when the TS-1 engaged. Dunlop should consider adding true bypass or a simple boost switch to compensate. The vibrant purple housing is sturdy and the big chrome knobs are solid and turn like butter. Machined ridges on the knobs make for easy toe turning onstage. Overall, the Dunlops tremolo sound lies somewhere between a fluid Fender blackface and the choppiness of an old Vox. It sounds a little slicker than both of these but it's a bright shimmer that stands out nicely. |
