The Mongoose has one of the more unique sounds in all of pedal-land. Aside from having one of the fattest fuzzes out there, the fine folks at Roger Mayer also added a cool notchy wah-like voicing to the circuitry. It's a cool hollow tone that added a very surprising and distinctive vowel-like honk to certain notes and chords. This kind of narrow sonic focus gives the Mongoose the ability pop out in the mix. Used in moderation, it can widen your personal distortion palette and keep songs and sounds from getting bland. It's a tasty tone that would probably take a chain of three or four 4 normal pedals to accurately recreate. One added bonus is the Mongoose's ability to create manageable sustained feedback at lower volumes. We plugged into a small Fender Vibro-Champ running at a modest volume and within moments had waves of harmonically charged feedback gushing from the amp. This could come in handy for all you noisemongers or crafty studio hounds out there. |
