A basic but very tweakable eq. 10 sliders take care of a gernerous range of frequencies with a hefty boost or cut of 12db in either direction. Adding some beef to lackluster pickups, taming a trebly guitar, or compensating for tone challenged amps is the MXR's job, and it does the job well. We prefered this over the MXR 6 band and Boss GE-7 for versatility and overall EQ tweakability but it does fall short in a few crucial areas. The MXR is always on and there is no bypass. This makes it next to impossible to get an idea of the before and after results of your adjustments. We also wished there was an overall gain to to boost everything. After giving our old Teisco Del Ray guitar some much needed tone repair through the MXR we needed a little overall volume to make up for all the tweaks. |
