One of the all-time flanger greats! Whether you can score an original model or pick up a reissue, you can go wrong with the MXR flanger. This unit's dark thick swoosh is all over early Van Halen records as well as in the effects heavy mixes of the Psychedelic Furs. For that classic jet engine sweep this really is the only choice. Slow setting pumps out that slow wave of harmonic shiftiness while fast setting percolate with a demented yet bubbly ring modulation. With a little patience and some twiddling, the MXR does a very nice pseudo-chorus or even a metallic and pingy vibrato. Think of the guitar sounds of the Church, The Cure, or even the Police and you've got a clear picture of what the MXR Flanger can do. Top off all the great sounds with AC power and you'll see why these are still around after nearly 30 years. |
