This long forgotten gem from the early eighties still crops up on Ebay and pawnshop shelves from time to time. The Pearl's curvy and cartoonish housing and little chrome stomp switch are unmistakable and always bring back a little bit of tender nostalgia when we spot one. It's a impressionable design we've always liked. Looks aside, it's not the most convincing flanger in the traditional sense of the word, but it does have it's own quirky and very likable character. The flange itself definitely lacks a little swoosh in the sweep category but can still muster up some wobbly weird-isms and death-ray shuns when tweaked to full. Lower settings give off a nice harmonic ping and can really add a nice clean shimmer atmospheric parts. It's an aquired taste but this one really has some cool modulation tones up it's cool looking sleeve. |
