The Sansamp Classic was one of the earliest attempts to recreate the tones of tubes amps direct to tape. Nearly a decade later this is still one of the more convincing units on the market. Bassman, Boogie, and Marshall sounds can all be coaxed out of this box through a versatile combination of 4 knobs and 8 tiny DIP switches. While not as dynamic as a real tube amp, the Sansamp is a great box for those late-nite recording or practice sessions. We had the best recording results when using the Sansamp in conjunction with a cheap tube preamp. While this is fantastic in the studio, the Sansamp performs admirably onstage as a trusty stompbox. It voiced very well for most overdrive duties and pulls off everything from that early Vox bite of the Beatles to wide open valveyness of Stevie Ray Vaughan. |
