The mysterious parapedal! This rare bird appeared on the scene in the 70s and caught the attention of everyone from Toni Iommi to Steve Howe. This device was billed as a wah but did so much more. It basically has a huge wah sweep followed by a crazy phase/synth-like effect that tracks with your first wah tone. As if that effect could be topped, the heel end of the sweep actually decreased the volume and brightness of your sginal somewhat. The overall effect was a swell plus a sweep that ended up creating some very impressive vowel-like expressions. The Tychobrahe company folded before too many parapedals were produced so finding one for a decent price is almost as unheard of as the sound of the pedal itself. If you need "that" sound, an industrious boutique company called Chicago Iron have started making wonderful clones of the Tychobrahe stuff. |
