An interesting twist on the clean boost pedal. The single volume knob of the SHO is negative-feedback control similar to old sixties mixing consoles. Basically the input impedance on the pedal is so high that it forces your magnetic pickups to work a little harder thus improving their clarity and response. Whatever it does, it's nothing short of magical. We found that with the SHO inline that both our Jazzmaster and Gibson 335 perked up a bit. Highs and lows seemed more pronounced and it even made our overdrive boxes sound a little sweeter. It's subtle, but we definitely missed that extra sparkle when we did turn it off. The massive output of the SHO has ample power to pummel any amplifiers preamp section, just be sure your amp is in great shape to handle the punishment. Although we favored the clean boost, pushing the SHO into more extreme setting brought out a breathy crunch that rivaled many boutique boxes claiming to be overdrives. |
