A no-nonsense compressor from the late 70s and early 80s. Two simple knobs take care of level and sustain functions, while a little finger switch toggles between a fixed, normal and treble setting. Overall this is a pretty colorful fellow that certainly squashes your signal in a nice subdued way. It isn't terribly punchy due to a slow attack but the CS-1 does add a nice warm percussive quality to your tone that should be very appealing for sensitive jazz types, country pickers, and mellow rockers. The CS-1 is surprisingly quiet for its age and blows away most modern day units. The treble setting is a very handy feature and adds just enough color to bring most solos screaming to the front of the mix. Prices on the CS-1 are still pretty reasonable so keep an eye open when you're out scouring the pawnshops or Ebay! |
