Hands down one of our favorite compressors here at the GuitarGeek compound. This early to mid-80s pedal was the very successful followup to the very cool CS-1. For this one, Boss dropped the CS-1's treble toggle switch and opted for a third knob that controlled attack times. This thoughtful addition gave the CS-2 some tone shaping possibilities that the older CS-1 was definitely lacking. Not only can you get that tight percussive punch but also dial in some very gentle sustain for those long singing notes. The CS-2 may not have the exaggerated tightness of many modern pedals but it seems more musical to our ears. These are starting to fetch a few extra bucks in the used market so be on the lookout for good deals out there in pawnshop land. |
